DIY Gardening Interview

By Interviewer at 04/22/08 21:23

What is the name of your Blog?

DIY Gardening

What is your name?

Karen

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

Grants Pass, OR, USA

What is your current age or age range?

My husband and I have 132 years between us but we're still kickin' and gardenin'

Please describe your blog

Our blog is about all aspects of gardening with the idea of passing on many years of acquired gardening knowledge and learn from other gardeners who share like interests.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

The original idea was to create a blog as an avenue to get the word out about our product (the circlehoe) which is a garden hoe that my husband invented that makes weeding easier and less stressful on the body. Now that I've done all the research on blogging (reading hundreds of blogs), I realize that what I really want to accomplish is to set up a communications avenue with other gardeners. Gardeners in general are great people with a very healthy outlook on life. It's pretty scary but I'm actually starting to think like a blogger.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

I started with blogger because I noticed that a lot of sites were set up on it and I had heard that it was easy to get into and FREE!

What do you blog the most about?

Gardening. Not only do we have MANY years of gardening experiences, I do a lot of research for the newsletter I write for our website at www.circlehoe.com. I figure that between those two areas, I've got more than enough knowledge to pass on and gardening is one of those areas where you're never too old to learn something new.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Don't know.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

I haven't learned any good tips yet since I've only done one post.

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

personal stuff, my children

How long have you been blogging?

I've only done one post 2 days ago. I was so excited today that I actually had a comment. I still am not sure how all this happens, how people find my blog, etc.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

I've just spent several days blogging but usually it won't be more that a few hours a week. I'm still working full time in our business so there's not a lot of left over hours.

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

I think I've got about 4 set up now. I doubt I'll do anything daily.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

No yet. I haven't checked it out yet but I will.

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

No yet. I haven't checked it out yet but I will.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

I don't know what promotional techiniques there are. Got any good suggestions?

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

I really like May Dreams Garden. I haven't been in it long enough to know more.

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

no

Do you think our editor will find this too boring and straightforwad?

I don't know. It's pretty serious business to me right now. It's like this whole other world and for someone my age, it's intense. Actually, I think I'm almost past 'intense' so from here on out it might get to be fun! It was snowing yesterday morning (April 22) when I woke up. I immediately started writing a blog in my head about why it was snowing in April when it should be time to go out gardening. Do that sound like a convert to you?

What is the url of your blog?
