Pruning rose branches specially those which are dead, crossing, and the wimpy ones. The pruning usually start from November around Thanksgiving up February around Valentine's Days.
But don't just prune at your desire. You must still follow the rule in rose pruning - "Cut only those which are higher than your knees, because it won't survive lower than that". while some people believe that you should near the bottom to induce dormancy during winter and protect the plant from freezing.
